A Growing Problem
With the popularity of TV, Internet and video games, it’s no wonder
kids aren’t as active as they used to be. Exercise is competing with
nonstop cartoons and video games. Snack foods have always been and
continue to be a problem, and as kids are engaging in less activity, the
snack foods are increasingly translating into added pounds. According
to the latest childhood obesity statistics from the National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, "an estimated 16 percent of
children and adolescents ages 6-19 years are overweight." Even
more are at risk of becoming overweight. With the rise in
childhood obesity, keeping kids active is an important goal for all
parents.
School recess is becoming shorter to allow for more classroom time, so kids are
getting less opportunity for physical education and activity. One
report found that only 8% of elementary schools, 6.4% of middle schools
and 5.8% of high schools provide daily PE during the school year for
students in all grades (Kolbe, Kann & Brener 2001).
A child who becomes skilled and knowledgeable in physical education is more
likely to become a healthy adult who is motivated to remain healthy and
physically active throughout his or her life.
The Fun Factor
Kids just want to have fun! A CardioFIT
KIDS boot camp program empowers children to embrace exercise while
having fun. Showing them how to enjoy
exercise while improving their health and fitness level is a skill that will stay with them for life.
Kids have shorter attention spans and can get bored quickly - CardioFIT KIDS uses motivation and games to encourage kids to
do their best in a non-competitive environment. And because the
emphasis is on fun and play, children of all fitness levels and
athletic ability can handle these exercises.
CardioFIT
KIDS works with kids between the ages of 5-14, with each class divided
into age-specific categories. Whether your child comes to class once or
twice a week, they will leave feeling challenged, accomplished and
confident in their own unique abilities.
